Beautiful and Colorful Butterfly Illustration

Throwback Art Thursday

The Butterfly with an Attitude

When I started creating again in 2012, I decided to try digital art. I taught myself this fantastic ArtRage software using a bamboo pen and a Wacom tablet. One of my earliest digital creations, “The Butterfly with an Attitude,” holds a special place in my heart. This piece marks the beginning of my journey into digital art and symbolizes my artistic transformation and growth.

Digital art was a new realm for me, a space where creativity met technology. ArtRage, with its intuitive interface and versatile tools, became my playground. Though simple, the bamboo pen and tablet felt like an extension of my hand, allowing me to bring my visions to life with every stroke.

“The Butterfly with an Attitude” emerged from a desire to push boundaries and challenge the conventional perceptions of beauty and elegance typically associated with butterflies. Instead of a delicate, fragile creature, I envisioned a butterfly that exuded confidence and a bit of sass. Bold colors, sharp lines, and a fierce expression set this butterfly apart, uniquely representing strength and individuality.

Reflecting on this artwork now reminds me how far I’ve come since those early days. “The Butterfly with an Attitude” is not just a piece of art; it’s a testament to my dedication to learning and evolving as an artist. It’s a throwback that reminds me to always stay true to my unique voice and never shy away from boldly expressing my creativity.

As I share this piece with you today, I hope it inspires you to embrace your creative passions and explore new mediums. Whether you’re an aspiring artist or looking to rekindle your creative spirit, remember that every masterpiece starts with a single stroke. Keep creating, experimenting, and, most importantly, believing in your artistic journey.

My Throwback Art Pieces

“Mad Poet”
Artist, Katsushika Hokusai

Recently, I decided to share my earlier art pieces. I share these art pieces every Thursday and call them ‘Throwback Art Thursday’ on my Facebook and Instagram accounts. I thought I would share a couple of them here with you.

This one above is called the “Mad Poet.” The original piece was created by a phenomenal Japanese artist, Katsushika Hokusai, known simply as Hokusai. (1760-1849) This drawing was from an art class that I attended back in 1991. If my memory serves me correctly, I was required to use a Japanese brush and ink.

Hokusai was the first Japanese artist to be internationally recognized. One of Hokusai’s most famous art pieces is called. “The Great Wave off Kanagawa.” It was created with ink on a woodblock print back in 1831.
Check it out here:

Lighthouse. Oil on canvas.

I painted this lighthouse using oil paints in 2001. If I remember correctly, it was created during a one-day class at a local park district before paint-and-sip places existed. This is, for sure, a medium I’m not used to using.

I was approached by a high school friend to create this unique painting for him and his beautiful wife. They now have it framed and sitting in their foyer. Here is the feedback I received from my happy customers:

I greatly appreciate your time and care in the project.”

Stacy’s Sunflower

Stacy’s Sunflower 2020

I’m finally finished with “Stacy’s Sunflower.”

On February 4, 2020, my best friend lost her battle to cancer. She put up a good fight for four years. My heart is broken, but it helps to know she is in a better place and at peace. Stacy and I have known each other since high school. We shared many great memories.

This sunflower represents the love and friendship I had for her. I was so very blessed to have a friend like her.

Her memory will live on in my heart for the rest of my days.

May she Rest In Peace. ❤️

My Happy Place

My Happy Place
My very first art studio

I thought I’d share some photos of my happy place. My art studio. I lose track of the time when I’m in here.

Creating art makes my soul happy. It’s my escape from the, at times, stressful world we live in. Just my music, art, and my dog(s).

Where is your happy place? Comment below.

I Sold My First Original Painting!

The happy recipient of my first original painting, Meagan Brown.

I am super excited to share this great news! I have sold my very first original painting!! Thank you to my friends, Mr. and Mrs. Brown, for purchasing my “Owl Lovers” watercolor painting. They gifted this painting to their daughter, Meagan.

I am excited about this new way of sharing my art. I have always created my art digitally in the past, and now I am experimenting with watercolors and having an absolute blast with this fun medium. Creating on paper rather than my computer screen and stylus is entirely different.

I plan to start selling my original paintings, prints, and other products. To receive weekly updates on my current art pieces, please follow me on Instagram and Facebook @OneArtsyMomma.
